New carpet has a noticeable smell – is that normal?

A mild odor from new carpet and adhesives in the first few days is common and typically fades on its own with normal ventilation. Opening windows and running ventilation for the first day or two after installation usually clears it faster, and it's a good idea regardless of the season.
