No Fabric Tag? Upholstery Cleaning Without a Code
When there’s no care tag showing a code, we test an inconspicuous spot before cleaning the full piece, so we know how the fabric reacts before we commit to a method on the visible areas.
Full-piece cleaning matched to the fabric code, including upholstered dining and accent chairs. Visible stains and general soiling are treated in the same pass.
Enzyme-based treatment, the same approach we use on carpet.
Book upholstery with a carpet cleaning visit and we do both in one appointment.
Optional. We apply a protector after cleaning to help fabric resist spills and everyday soiling.
Safe to clean with water-based methods.
Needs solvent-based cleaning only. A water-based method on S-coded fabric can cause shrinking, staining or watermarking.
Can be cleaned with either a water-based or a solvent-based method.
Vacuum only. Wet cleaning risks damaging the fabric.

We recommend cleaning upholstery once a year. Pets, kids or heavy daily use can call for more frequent cleaning.
A sofa or chair collects body oils, hair and spills on the arms, headrests and seat cushions. That buildup dulls fabric color even without a visible stain, and a full cleaning lifts it.
The fiber matters as much as the care-tag code. Natural fibers like cotton and linen absorb moisture readily and can watermark or shrink if over-wetted, so moisture control and drying time matter more on these fabrics. Synthetic fabrics such as polyester are more forgiving and dry faster, but many microfiber pieces carry an S code and water-spot easily. Vinyl and faux-leather upholstery isn't cleaned the same way as woven fabric at all; it calls for products meant for that surface.
For floors, see carpet cleaning and area rug cleaning, and for urine on fabric or carpet, pet stain and odor removal. For office carpet, see commercial carpet cleaning. We clean upholstery in Brockville and Belleville too.
Check the code on the care tag. W and WS fabric can be wet-cleaned, and S and X fabric cannot.
