Our Process

How Carpet Removal Works

1

Old Carpet and Pad Removed

We pull up the existing carpet and underpad, cut it into manageable sections, and clear the room down to bare subfloor.

2

Subfloor Inspected

With the floor exposed, we check for squeaks, loose or damaged boards, and moisture stains that the old carpet had been covering up.

3

Debris Hauled Away

Old carpet, pad and tack strip leave the property with our crew and the room is left swept and clear, so you are not stuck bagging up offcuts yourself.

4

Final Walkthrough

We walk the room with you before we go, confirming the subfloor condition and that everything is swept clean and ready for whatever comes next.

What's Included in Carpet Removal

Tear-Out and Disposal

Old carpet, pad, and tack strip pulled up and taken off site as part of the price you agree to upfront. Standard-size bedrooms and living rooms are commonly cleared in a single visit.

Honest Subfloor Check

We tell you what we find under the old carpet, whether you're installing new flooring right away or waiting until later.

Furniture Handled Carefully

Light items are moved within the room; let us know ahead of time about anything heavy or fragile.

Flexible Scheduling

Open 7 days a week – 7:30am to 11pm weekdays, 8am to 10pm weekends – so we can usually find a time that works even for a single room.

A Clean Subfloor, Whatever Comes Next

Removing old carpet, pad and tack strip properly means the subfloor gets a proper check and cleaning rather than being left in whatever condition the old flooring covered up. That matters whether you’re planning on new carpet, another flooring type, or just clearing a room out. Need new carpet installed after the old one comes out? See our carpet installation service.

Carpet Removal: Staples, Tack Strip and Subfloor Prep

Pulling up old carpet is only part of a tear-out. Along the walls, dozens of staples and the old tack strip are usually still holding the pad in place, and both need to come out before the room is truly clear. Tack strip that is bent, split, or missing teeth is pulled out with the rest rather than left behind. Once the floor is clear, we sweep and vacuum up grit and old adhesive residue, then check for protruding nail heads or staples left behind from a previous install, since anything sharp poking through the subfloor is worth flagging before you decide what goes down next.

On the disposal side, old carpet and pad are cut into rolls as they come up and staged for haul-away rather than left piled in the room, which keeps dust and debris down while the work happens. Hard-surfaced hallways and thresholds the crew has to pass through get protected on the way out, so removal day does not leave marks on floors you are keeping.

Carpet Removal FAQs

Do you haul away my old carpet?

Yes, tear-out and disposal of the old carpet and pad are handled as part of the job, not left for you to bag up.

How long does a carpet removal take?

For a standard bedroom or living room, often a single visit. Larger jobs or multiple rooms may need more time, which we will flag when we quote it.

What happens if you find subfloor damage once the old carpet is up?

We stop and show you what we found before doing anything further, so repair options and any added cost are your call, not a surprise on the invoice.

Do I need to move furniture out of the room first?

Light furniture can usually be shifted on-site. For larger pieces, clearing the room ahead of time keeps the visit moving and keeps your furniture out of the way.
